At South Yarra Primary School, Victoria, students and staff wholeheartedly embraced the Buddies For Wildlife module of work and were well prepared for the Better Buddies Team visit. Teachers had trialled many activities from the Buddies for Wildlife resource and students amazed the Better Buddies Team and Buddy Bear with their knowledge of Australian wildlife. Student work was proudly displayed in all classrooms demonstrating students' learning alongside key messages about caring for native wildlife. Buddies worked together on a range of activities and all were very excited to welcome Buddy Bear as a special guest. Buddy Bear and the Team were treated to wonderful performances from the senior buddies who synthesised their learning about native wildlife and created songs, a rap, puppet shows, performances, movies and more to communicate to their junior buddies the importance of caring for our native wildlife in a fun and entertaining manner.
Lindisfarne North Primary School welcomed a number of special guests for their launch of Buddies for Wildlife. We'd like to thank all those who attended the launch including parents, staff and students and official guests Jenny Gale, Acting Secretary of Tasmania's Department of Education, Mark Green and Ron Sanderson from the Tasmanian Community Fund, Carly and James representing NAB, and the highlight for many students, Buddy Bear.
Students and staff created an eye-catching display for Book Week incorporating a range of new and favourite books and including A Diary of a Wombat which is the focus of the Buddies for Wildlife module. Buddies listened very carefully during the official opening and then enjoyed some time working on buddy activities together. It was a fabulous opportunity for parents, guests and the media to see how much the buddies enjoy working together and to talk with buddies about what they enjoy most about Better Buddies. One junior buddy was so thrilled with the visit from Buddy Bear and the opportunity to enjoy Better Buddies activities, he made sure to thank the Better Buddies Team and Principal Philippa Roberts personally for organising the event and described how much it meant to him to be part of the celebrations.
Bunyip Primary School hosted a special Buddy breakfast to help launch Buddies for Wildlife. Along with Buddy Bear, students and staff at Bunyip were pleased to welcome special guests Jenny and Reg Mattingley from Maryknoll Wildlife shelter. Animals from the shelter at Maryknoll feature in the Buddies for Wildlife module and Jenny and Reg's expertise was extremely valuable in developing the module. The buddies were also delighted Jenny and Reg brought along an extra-special guest to meet them - six-month-old "Jessie-Lee", a wombat being cared for at Maryknoll Wildlife shelter.
