1 - National Buddy Week 2011

What a week! National Buddy Week ran from February 21-28 and was a huge success.

The week highlighted the need to prevent bullying in Australian schools and cyberspace, by providing an opportunity to celebrate friendships and discuss bullying. Importantly, it put the issue of bullying into the minds and conversations of media commentators, parents, teachers and the community.

As part of the 2011 Buddy Week celebrations, the team from The Alannah and Madeline Foundation embarked on a tour across the country hosting seminars, visiting schools, meeting NAB buddies and seeing in person the wonderful things Better Buddies schools are doing.

The seminars provided insights into ways teachers can identify, manage and prevent bullying in Australian schools.

National Buddy Week friendship bands and badges were sold in all NAB branches nationally, with all proceeds going to The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.  A big thank you also to those schools who held fundraising events and activities for the Foundation.

Throughout Buddy Week, Better Buddies schools participated in a range of activities to celebrate friendships and we are still hearing about many schools' activities and encourage schools to send us a brief overview of their event along with photos that can be published online.  To find out more about different events held to celebrate Buddy Week 2011, click on the links below:
