Old Orchard Primary School has received its special 'We are a Better Buddies School' sign from their local NAB Buddy!
The Better Buddies sign will allow Old Orchard Primary School to promote its involvement in the Better Buddies Framework and highlight their commitment to ensuring students feel safe and happy at school.
NAB Buddy, Marlene Strain presented the sign to Old Orchard's Better Buddies coordinators Heidi Kelly and Kirsten Burrows, along with grade six buddy Jack, and prep buddy Tamara.
Marlene said NAB was proud to support a program that is helping create caring and friendly schools and helping reduce instances of bullying within Australian schools.
"As a major Australian bank, we have a responsibility to face the issues that impact the health and safety of our communities. By managing the issue of bullying, rather than pretending it doesn't exist, we can make a positive and meaningful difference to the culture of our schools and their community."
The Better Buddies Framework was first implemented into Old Orchard Primary School in 2009 and has been extremely popular among the school's students.
"The Better Buddies Framework has been embraced by the whole school community, especially the students who love spending time with their buddies," said Better Buddies coordinator, Heidi Kelly.
"Our grade six buddies love looking after their younger buddies. They feel really valued and respected, and look out for their little buddies. The students love catching up with their buddies in the class room or in the play-ground," she added.
All schools with a NAB Buddy will receive a Better Buddies sign as part of NAB's ongoing commitment and support of the Better Buddies Framework.
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation introduced the Better Buddies Framework into 30 schools in 2007, and with NAB's ongoing support, now has more than 800 participating schools across Australia.
